Paint and Flooring
- Published on

While we're in design mode over here, we want to create a dedicated post about our paint color and flooring choices. You may have seen some of our colors discussed in other posts, but we wanted to cover all of them together along with what we finally decided on for flooring throughout the home.
Since we are doing custom cabinetry, we had to choose paint colors for all of the cabinets (and stain for the kitchen cabinets). We also had to choose colors for all interior walls, base trim, interior doors, and door casing trim. We’re trying to keep everything neutral, so this post won’t have any crazy fun choices, but we think that these colors will really tie the whole house together.
The cabinets are as follows: the kitchen will be White Oak with Sierra Tan stain.

All the bathroom cabinets will be the same color. We chose Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige, but we are cutting it down to 75%. So it will be 25% lighter than actual Accessible Beige...if that makes sense!

The pantry and laundry room cabinets will also be the same color. For these two areas we chose Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog. We wanted to create a fun pop of color somewhere other than the tile or added decor. So we felt great places to do that were in the pantry and laundry room.

Finally, the walls, doors, and trim. There’s a couple different ways you could look at these. You could make your walls and trim the same color and your doors a different color. You could make your doors and trim the same color and your walls a different color. Or you could make all 3 different colors, which I wouldn’t advise, but it is an option. We decided to make our doors and trim one color and our walls a different color. For walls we are going with Sherwin Williams Greek Villa. Then for trim and doors we have chosen Sherwin Williams Shoji White. These follow our neutral, light palette without being too stark white, so we think they will work great in the house.

The only thing we’ve discussed doing differently during building is painting Colin’s office a different color. We’re looking for a dark, moody blue, and we would paint the entire office (ceiling and all) this color if we decide to go ahead with that right now. Otherwise, everything will stay the same colors throughout the home. We did paint a couple samples incase we do want to do this. As of right now, we would go with Sherwin Williams Cyberspace if we decide to paint his office immediately.

Next is our flooring. We initially were set on luxury vinyl plank for our main flooring choice throughout the home. Some family members suggested we look at laminate as well. All we knew of laminate was from years ago when it was cheap and not very durable. We were recommended Mohawk Revwood series laminate specifically. After some research, we realized that laminate is now way more durable and comparable to LVP. It’s still at a great price point, and it’s thicker than LVP which is actually very nice if you are putting tile anywhere in your home. If you lay LVP next to tile and don’t want transition strips, you’d have to lay plywood throughout your entire home as a base to bring up the level of the LVP to match the thickness of the tile. This adds labor and material cost, which can be frustrating. The laminate we chose is the right thickness to work with tile, so it was just a bonus that we found a beautiful, durable flooring that we don’t have to put extra money into laying.
Revwood has 3 different lines to choose from, all ranging in warranties, the level of waterproofing, and the overall look and durability. We have dogs, and one day will have kids, so we didn’t want to have to worry about any accidents or spills with our floor. We went with their best, the Premier line, and chose the color Golden Sand Oak. We love the light wood-tone and the texture it has to make it look like real wood. This is our main flooring for the home, with the exception of places we are laying tile on the floor.

So that’s a wrap on paint and flooring. This was definitely our least detailed decision, but it was still a big one because these things will be all over the home. We are very comfortable in these choices to tie all of our home elements together 🙂.
