Final Prints

Published on

We’ve finally made it! Our floor plan is done and we’ve finalized our prints. (But is anything ever *really* final? 🙃).

We haven’t made many changes since we last shared the floor plan. Now, though, we are able to look at renderings of the elevations (the outside of the house), and see the foundation plan.

We are not finishing the basement right away, but we had to figure out where to put rough-ins for a future bathroom as well as where all of our mechanicals will go (furnace, water heater, sump pump, etc.). When you build a home, even if you aren’t going to finish the basement right away, you have to come up with a possible future basement layout so you know where to put bathroom rough-ins. Thinking of a future plan also helps you place egress windows in the basement as you are required to have a certain number of these.

Here’s some photos of our final layout and the exterior of the home. The rendering in our banner up top is trying to show the colors we're going for, but we want black brick, not gray. The siding will be a wood tone.

We did close up one opening on the side of the fireplace so we could have a spot to put built-ins in the living room. We also moved the opening by the dining room so that space would feel more defined and you wouldn’t be walking into a table coming out of that hallway. The pantry wall was moved outward another foot because we want to put cabinets in the pantry and want to make sure we have plenty of space to walk and stand in there still. (Colin’s coffee bar will be in the pantry now, so he needs space to work his magic 😉).

We also decided to reduce the size of the front porch. Concrete is expensive, y’all! We didn’t need a front porch that large, and removing the slab in front of the pantry also helped with running some mechanicals out of the front of the house, so it was a win-win.

I think we’ve covered all the changes since last sharing. So we will see how things progress as we actually get to starting to build the home!

As always, thanks for being here. Stay tuned for more as we jump into picking all of our finishes and getting this build started 🙂
