Brick and Siding Finish
- Published on

The brick and siding on the outside of the house is complete, and might we say—it’s stunning!
Brick went up first. It did take a while, but the end result was definitely worth waiting for. Exterior work on a new build is tough because you are dealing with weather. While we can keep the schedule moving inside the home because it is sealed up and out of the elements, we can’t do the same for the exterior. Thankfully we had a mild winter and our mason was able to work through the winter months to get all of our brick up.
We chose a black brick and went with a black-dyed mortar to match it. Our goal was for the siding to really stand out against the rest of the house. We have the black brick and black front door, side door, and garage doors. We will also have black light fixtures on the outside of the home. We do have to have limestone sills in places on the house, which are gray, but other than that it really is the siding that pops on the home.

After the brick was completed we were able to get our siding contractor over to install the accent areas. We chose Nichiha siding. They have a number of different products to choose from, but the reason we chose the brand is because it provided the cedar look we were going for in a material that was durable and wouldn’t need to be stained all the time like cedar. The Nichiha product we chose is a fiber cement board that is given a wood grain finish and offered in a few different colors. The color we chose is actually called Cedar. This got installed on the two side walls of the front of the house, over the front porch, and around the transom windows at the back of the house.

After the Nichiha was installed we were able to get our final grading done in the yard so we could get our driveway and sidewalk poured. After we had the concrete done we were able to get our brick power washed. After the cleaning, the brick really shines, and we are so happy with it.

Now that the exterior of the home is covered, we can really see the final effect that we were hoping to achieve. We still have to get our permanent service door installed and painted for the garage, so that will finish the effect, but it’s close enough now to see our vision in real life. We love the way it looks, and we’re so excited to dress this home up with a little landscaping at the end!
