Appliances and Plumbing Fixtures
- Published on

We’ve been busy getting shopping done for this home. A couple things we have knocked out are picking out our appliances and plumbing fixtures. We went to local businesses for both.
We’ve talked about appliances before, but here’s a refresher on what we were shopping for. We want a large, side-by-side fridge/freezer, a rangetop, a dishwasher, a double oven wall unit, an under-counter microwave, a beverage fridge, and an ice maker. We also had to find a washer and dryer.
We had looked at a few different appliance brands and have been trying to decide between Monogram and KitchenAid as our top two. We asked the sales rep to price out both options. We are trying to be budget conscientious and figured KitchenAid might be more cost effective than Monogram. Both are great brands, Monogram is just a bit higher-end than KitchenAid. Monogram is currently running a promotion that’s essentially a BOGO. If you buy certain appliances you start getting other appliances for free (up to a certain limit). On top of that, the sales rep was able to give us a deal on a washer and dryer if we went with Monogram because of the volume of appliances we were looking to buy. So we have to compare the price difference between getting these "free" items and what we would be able to get from KitchenAid. Here's what we are looking at appliance-wise:
We picked out a 48” side-by-side fridge/freezer, a 48” rangetop, dishwasher, double-oven, and drawer microwave. We also need to get a hood vent, but that will just be an insert because we want to create a decorative hood vent rather than just having the classic stainless-steel hood. These pictures are from the Monogram line, but KitchenAid would be a very similar look.

The beverage fridge is from Zephyr, and the ice maker is from KitchenAid. We are not worried about matching these smaller appliances with the bigger ones, so no matter which route we go we will be getting the KitchenAid ice maker and some other brand of beverage fridge.

The washer and dryer we picked out are GE Profile. The washer has a cool feature where it can hold detergent and auto-dispense it for you so you’re not wasting any detergent by adding too much. The washer and dryer also have some other nice features, but we thought that was a particularly cool one.

We haven’t actually ordered these appliances yet, but with our build finally getting started we are going to need to go back in soon and get everything ordered so we have them on time. We just have to make the decision on price!
A bit after picking out appliances we had a meeting to pick out all of our plumbing fixtures. Here’s what we needed to shop for: faucets and sinks for kitchen and pantry, faucets, sinks, shower heads and controls, bathtubs, and toilets for all bathrooms, and a faucet and sink for the laundry room. We decided to shop mainly Delta brand and also liked some things from Brizo, which is another Delta line. For toilets, we decided to go with Toto brand.
In the kitchen, we picked out this Brizo faucet with touch technology. We also are putting in a reverse osmosis (r.o.) system so we can have purified drinking water. We didn’t want a water dispenser in the fridge door so we could keep a clean look on the fridge. So we also picked out a matching r.o. faucet. We also picked out a beautiful, large, black-quartz sink. In the pantry, we are matching the kitchen faucets and sink. However, it will be a smaller sink and a prep faucet–also with touch tech (prep faucet just means it won’t be as tall as the kitchen faucet). We are also putting an r.o. faucet and a cup rinser by the pantry sink because this is where Colin will set up his coffee bar. So having the purified water and a place to rinse his glasses nearby will be very convenient. We also added a pot filler by the range top in the kitchen. This is something we always wished we had in our last house. It just makes life a little bit easier so you aren’t trying to hold a heavy pot of water over the sink while filling.

In the laundry room, we picked out the same black-quartz sink as the kitchen, just in a smaller size. We also picked a Delta Trinsic faucet.

In all the bathrooms we picked out Delta Modern faucets. We also went with Delta Ara collection for shower heads and controls. As mentioned, all toilets are Toto, and the extra bathrooms are all getting regular toilets.
The two extra bathrooms will be getting the same shower/tub setup below. We want to tile the wall above the tub so we went with just tubs and not shower/tub inserts.

The bath in the game room is going to be just a shower, and this is the bathroom we will use to wash the dogs, so we added a handheld wand in this shower. The setup for this bathroom looks like this:

The powder room will just have a sink and toilet. We are going to be buying a standalone sink something similar to the one pictured below. So all we had to pick out here was the faucet and toilet.

The primary bathroom is going to have an oversized shower and a freestanding tub. We picked out a beautiful, clean, modern-looking tub and will have the Delta Ara floor-mount tub filler with it. In the shower we chose a regular shower head and controls, added a handheld wand, and also added a rain shower from the ceiling. We also went with a Toto Washlet in the primary bathroom. We’ve always talked about having a washlet and figured this was the time to finally have one.

So there we have it, a couple more things checked off the list! We’re excited to be finalizing everything and really digging into the design on this build. Onto the next items on the list!
